The Cologne police draws attention to alleged summonses that are currently in circulation nationwide - and apparently have unsettled numerous recipients.
The letters were falsified and did not come from the officers.
"The e-mail is a fake," said the police.
Many of those affected were unsettled because of the alleged allegation.
The police said that unknown persons had falsified a cover letter and emailed it to numerous addressees in Germany and Austria.
The letter alleges that the recipients are being investigated for the sexual harassment of minors.
No malware detected in email so far
Since the number of a real policewoman was not exchanged by the perpetrator or the perpetrators in the letter, around 60 citizens from all over Germany and Austria have called the detective chief inspector.
The recipients who were allegedly randomly contacted will not be investigated.
Opening the e-mail has not yet caused any malware to be downloaded.
The police still advise: »Delete this type of email.« In addition, recipients should under no circumstances reply to the email address provided or follow any links provided.
