(ANSA) - CATANZARO, 11 JAN - "I am against any restriction of freedom for vaccinated people. We asked Italians and Calabrians to get vaccinated, and those who choose the scientist cannot pay for the behavior of others. Not getting vaccinated is a free choice, which I consider irresponsible , but this free choice has consequences. That is why I asked the government for the possibility of a selective lockdown for no vax. We cannot take risks because of a minority: the unvaccinated stay at home ". This was stated by Roberto Occhiuto, president of the Calabria Region, interviewed on "24 Mattino" on Radio 24.
"Calabria - he added - is a region that has a health care commission, so obviously we have higher problems than other realities. And the pressure on the hospital network has been increasing in recent weeks especially for hospitalizations that affect those who have not been vaccinated".
"In Calabria - said Occhiuto - I made the 'red zone' only in Platì, a municipality that has less than 30% of vaccinated people.
A few weeks ago I went to this town in Reggio, I had a vaccination center opened and I told the inhabitants : get vaccinated or I'll put you in the 'red zone'. The first day 40 were vaccinated, the second 20, then less and less. And now they are in the 'red zone', and will stay at home ".
