Cognetti: 'Hospitals full of Covid patients. The interventions slip slip for months. Patients' lives are risked "(ANSA)

"The long waiting lists for non-emergency surgery also include operations for tumors, from breast, stomach, colon. These are operations that must be done within 15-20 days and certainly not after three months and as well, because people's lives are at stake. We have been saying this for two years, since Covid patients filled hospital beds, but no one listens to us ".

This was explained to ANSA by

Francesco Cognetti,

president of the Federation of oncologists, cardiologists and hematologists, launching the alarm for the stop to scheduled surgery due to the increase in pressure on hospitals due to Covid.

"The case of the delay for the operations of patients with cancer is very serious - he adds - since in oncology only 10-20% of cases fall within the definition of emergency. the three months of programming putting patients at risk of life ".
