CD Projekt RED originally announced a large multiplayer mode for “Cyberpunk 2077”, which was advertised as a kind of stand-alone game.
But there is still no trace of it.
What is the state of affairs?
Only a few titles had triggered such a hype before their release, like “Cyberpunk 2077” *. So many players were all the more disappointing when they finally got started on release day. Initially, the game was plagued by numerous bugs and performance problems, especially on the PS4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, the situation has improved and the game has won a lot of fans, despite the bumpy start. The developers are constantly working on the construction sites of "Cyberpunk 2077". They also had to admit that they will not be able to implement all of their ambitious plans. Originally, the game was supposed to have a large multiplayer mode, which in principle should be viewed as an independent one. But in March 2021, Adam Kiciński, President of CD Projekt RED, revealedthat the plans regarding the multiplayer in "Cyberpunk 2077" have changed.

"Cyberpunk 2077": Multiplayer still planned - but with some drawbacks
A while ago, Kiciński explained at an investor conference that
multiplayer
content
was
planned
for both “Cyberpunk 2077” and “The Witcher” .
However, this should be done piece by piece.
“We're not going to reveal which franchise will be the first to get multiplayer functionality, but the first try will be something we can learn from and then gradually add more.
Step by step we want to open the doors to multiplayer [...], ”says Kiciński (via

).
However, he did not reveal any details about the planned multiplayer modes.
Therefore, at this point in time, we do not know what these might look like.
At first, gamers believed that it could be compared to “GTA Online”, but since the “Cyberpunk 2077” multiplayer will not be a standalone player, this comparison probably no longer fits.
One can only speculate about the release at the moment.
Initially, the releases of the
next-gen versions for "The Witcher 3" and "Cyberpunk 2077"
are planned, which should appear in the course of this year.
Kiciński assured during the conference that work on both titles is currently going according to plan.
