Again and again, customs and police find large quantities of drugs - the intoxicants often come to Germany via the port of Hamburg, for example.
But now the investigators have also found an enormous amount of cocaine far from the nearest seaport.
As announced by the State Criminal Police Office of Saxony and the Dresden Customs Investigation Office, more than 700 kilograms of cocaine were seized in the Central Saxony district.
According to this, employees of a food company had found strange packages in a large delivery of cane sugar and called the police.
A total of 600 cocaine packages were found.
"This is the largest seizure of cocaine in the Free State of Saxony so far," as the investigators announced.
LKA and customs put the street sales value at more than 150 million euros.
The Chemnitz public prosecutor has initiated an investigation against the previously unknown perpetrators.
It should be clarified whether the cocaine should actually be delivered to Saxony and who the actual addressees were.
