When it comes to cleaning the washing machine, there are numerous tips that should quickly ensure cleanliness and freshness.

Also in the closed Facebook group "Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips", which deals with cleaning hacks, a woman warned against the vinegar tip.

She had been advised by a washing machine fitter that the household remedy would be harmful to the device.

"It is an acid and even eats in tiny amounts on the bearings in the drum of the machine," says the woman, who is quoted by the British online portal Express.

"That means that your machines don't last that long, there are water leaks and they end up making noises like a jet engine starting."
