In a traffic accident in Hesse, a car occupied by two men drove into a lake.
The 28-year-old driver could only be rescued dead from the sunken car, the police said.
The 35-year-old passenger saved himself from the sinking car and survived.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Wednesday night on a country road in the Diemelsee community in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse.
Investigations are ongoing
The vehicle with the two men came off the road to the right and crashed into the Diemelsee.
When the police and fire brigade arrived, it was under water.
As the "Waldeckische Landeszeitung" reported, the salvage work on the steep embankment turned out to be difficult.
The car was finally pulled ashore with a towing device.
The fire brigade was on site with more than 50 emergency services.
The police are now investigating how the accident came about.
