Hong Kong will have its own legislation with new crimes on national security, in addition to the law imposed at the end of June 2020 by China to crack down on dissent after the mass protests of 2019. Governor Carrie Lam made it official, presiding over the first session of the Legislative Council (local parliament), renewed in December with the vote for "patriots only" and without pro-democracy opposition.
Lam, confirming the rumors, said that the "local legislation" will satisfy art.
23 of the local Constitution (Basic Law) which asks the city to approve its own laws on national security.
