In March 2020, something happened in our world.

A global epidemic, for the first time in a century.

Indeed, the world is experiencing natural disasters (tsunamis, earthquakes), man-made disasters (world wars) and epidemics (SARS, Ebola), but the corona plague presents us as humans with various and unusual challenges.

The prolongation of the plague, the existential danger and the anxiety, the loss of the order of life and the loss of the routine, the closures and the isolation, created a situation that is perhaps most similar to World War II.

Most of us are able to cope with the current epidemic as well.

We experience signs of distress and warning (anxiety) and update the form of coping.

The concern, however, is for some of us, those whose coping mechanisms are not efficient enough, are not flexible enough, those whose equilibrium they have achieved is unable to absorb the upheaval.

During human development humans have adapted to coping ways and mechanisms that enable them to live and succeed in daily life, mechanisms that help in times of crisis.

The ways we adopt are a result of the brain and genetic infrastructure with which we were born and their internalization and refinement while moving through daily life and life events that have led us to strengthen certain mechanisms and abandon others.

The mechanisms that will be strengthened are those that allow us to move forward to the goal we want to achieve while dealing with the anxiety that accompanies us all our lives.

Mechanisms that will raise anxiety and sabotage our efforts, will be neglected and we will not use them.

This internal balance comes in negotiations with the environment until an equilibrium is achieved.

There are those who are unable to absorb the upheaval.

The defense and coping mechanisms vary in quality and intensity, some people will help the environment and some will retreat into loneliness.

Some will act and will act and some will deny the danger, each man and the mechanisms he has adapted.

The quality of the mechanisms depends on the variety, the ability to change and adapt to the event, the flexibility of operation.

The equilibrium achieved can be stable and constant and can be shaky and fragile.

Depending on the person and their environment as well as the events that took place in our lives.

  • Due to the growing demand for effective pain treatment: B-Cure laser in a special operation

From the beginning of the plague we gather information about the mental distress experienced by the citizens of the country.

The data collection shows that about 20 percent experience anxiety, depression and distress, some of which are expressed in aggression, addiction and functional disorder.

At least 5 percent sought professional treatment due to the epidemic.

How do you deal with the current period?

1. Maintaining a routine: The

routine we have reached is a safety net for us.

Knowing what is happening anywhere and anytime is reassuring and does not require constant confrontation with considerations and dilemmas in life.

It is therefore advisable to preserve the agenda as much as possible.

This is not a vacation, but a job.

Wake up on time and get dressed, start working out and schedule proactive breaks.

Eat and drink as usual.

Be careful not to be attached to screens.

Maintain balance alone / together.

Use of effective mechanisms:

sharing or isolation, control or reliance, disconnection or connection, each person has to deal with ways that have proven themselves in the past.

A time of crisis is not the time to adopt new mechanisms, even if they have proven effective in others.

It is advisable to limit the dose of news and memorize the guidelines and there is no need to receive recurring news as soon as they are written.

It is also advisable to turn off the alert sounds on the phone as they can be stressful.

3. Use of external resources:

External resources such as relatives, friends, or habits such as sports, hiking, shopping, etc. are tools to alleviate anxiety and distress.

Remember that interest, giving and caring after can also be important tools for us.

The connection to nature and people is relaxing and comforting.

It is important to remember that we are all in the same boat and it is difficult for everyone to cope.

And of course in cases where the distress is unbearable, help should be sought.

In urgent cases, the help lines of ARN and SAR are available by phone and online.

Psychiatric and general emergency rooms.

In less urgent cases, you can go to the psychiatric clinics near the area of residence.
