In Lower Saxony, police officers stopped a freight train driver with more than two per thousand alcohol in his blood.
As the federal police announced, the 36-year-old employee of a private company was supposed to pick up 19 tankers filled with diesel from a refinery in Wilhelmshaven on Tuesday afternoon.
However, because of his unsafe driving style when maneuvering, an employee noticed him there.
According to the federal police, the refinery employee initially suspected a health problem in the train driver, but then noticed obvious signs of alcoholism.
Thereupon he called the Wilhelmshaven police.
This determined that the engine driver had an alcohol level of 2.17 per mille and notified the federal police, which is generally responsible for rail traffic.
The officers of the federal police then forbade the train driver to continue driving and confiscated his train driver's license.
The train driver had already driven before
The man had therefore already driven the locomotive from Oldenburg to Wilhelmshaven to receive the wagons.
He is now being investigated for endangering rail traffic.
