The wave of remakes on American television is expanding, going back decades • CBS is working on a remake of a 1955 sitcom starring comedian Jackie Gleason

American television continues to revive past series in an ever-expanding wave of remakes.

The new series that will be revived: a sitcom from the 50s called "The Honeymooners".

CBS is developing an up-to-date adaptation of a 1955 sitcom starring comedian Jackie Gleason.

Gleason began his career as an entertainer at nightclubs in New York, until he got his own sketch show.

In one of the sketches he introduced a character of a bus driver from Brooklyn named Ralph Cramden, and around this character the sitcom was built.

The series follows the lives of Ralph and his wife Alice (Audrey Medos), alongside their friends Ed and Trixie.

Although this sitcom is one of the most important milestones in the history of television, in practice it runs throughout only one season, which spans an entire year and 39 episodes. Despite the series' high ratings and rating as the second most-watched show in the U.S., Gleason preferred to focus on his talk show.

In the new version, the person who will be at the center of the series is the woman, who will give a female representation to the comic plot. The project was entrusted to Damon Vince Jr., who starred in series such as "All for the Best" and "The New Girl."

Another remake that will air next week on the streaming service Hollow is "How I Met Dad", a new version of "How I Met Mom", which went off the screen in 2014. The original series aired for nine seasons and dealt with a group of friends, with one of them telling his children how he knew their mother. In the remake there is a reversal in the plot, and this time Hillary Duff ("Younger") plays the main character and tells her children how she met their father. Young's character as an adult woman is played in the series by Kim Catrell, who is Samantha from "Sex and the City".

But the most intriguing remake of all seems to be "Bel Air," a remake of Will Smith's 90s sitcom, "The Cool Prince of Bel Air."

The new series, which will air next month on the Peacock streaming service, will be a drama series rather than a comedy series, centered on a similar scenario: a teenager from a crime neighborhood who moves in with relatives in Beverly Hills.
