One out of three overnight stays canceled compared to 2019. Istat: + 22.3% overnight stays in 9 months in 2021 but below 2019 (ANSA)

For tourism, 2021 was also a budget year in ross

o and it is the second year in a row with this tragic reality.

This was revealed

by the Federalberghi observatory whose data show that

148 million tourist presences went up in smoke in

the past year

.

To make a comparison with 2019 (the last pre-pandemic year), it is as if one out of three nights had been canceled.

If we look at foreign tourists alone, the loss becomes one in two for a total of 115 million foreign visitors lost.

In the first nine months of 2021, the presence of customers in hospitality establishments is up compared to 2020 (+ 22.3%)

but remains well below the levels of 2019

( -38.4

%).

Istat notes this

in the report on the Tourist Movement in Italy.

In the summer quarter (July-September) tourist presences were approximately 177 million (+ 31% compared to 2020) and 29 million less than in 2019 (-14%).

Travel by residents for work reasons (about 1.5 million) and for holidays (about 18 million) are at the levels of the first nine months of 2020, but still remain below those of the corresponding period of 2019.
