(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 12 JAN - Consumer prices in the United States in December rose 7% on an annual basis, in line with analysts' expectations and at the highest levels since the 1980s.
The increase on a monthly basis was 0.5%, above expectations.
The last time inflation hit 7% was in 1982.
The core price index, excluding food and energy and the one monitored by the Fed, rose by 0.6% in December, accelerating from + 0.5% in November.
On an annual basis, the core index recorded an increase of 5.5%, to the highest in 31 years.
