Sony actually wants to concentrate fully on the new PlayStation 5.
But since the console still cannot be offered in sufficient quantities, the company has to change its plans.
It's been a little over a year since the PlayStation 5 launched.
Even so, it is still incredibly difficult to get hold of Sony's new console.
The company's solution to this scarcity?
Produce more PS4 consoles.
PS5 production difficulties: Sony continues PS4 production
As
Bloomberg
reports, Sony originally planned to end production of the PS4 late last year. But the slow progress in manufacturing the new PS5 is forcing the company to rethink this strategy. This is because the components of the PS4 are easier to obtain and less expensive to produce. In the case of the PS5, it is not just the
high
demand
that is the reason it is out of stock everywhere. The
global
semiconductor
shortage
is
slowing down production enormously and an improvement is not in sight until the second half of the year at the earliest. As a result, Sony has decided
to continue PS4 production until 2022

Is there still demand for the PS4 at all?
Of course, the question arises as to
how high the demand for the PS4 is at all
.
Most people who wanted a PS4 have now had seven years to buy one.
Even if the PS4 were offered even cheaper, most would probably still wait for an opportunity to buy the successor.
However, the current demand for the PS4 for Sony is probably rather secondary.
According to
Bloomberg
, the continuation of PS4 production also plays
an important role in negotiations with production partners
.

PlayStation: Many new titles are also coming to PS4
The good news is that many new games are still coming
to both generations of consoles
, including God of War: Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West.
Therefore, PlayStation fans don't have to worry about not being able to play a game just because they don't own a PS5.
The games that have not yet been released across platforms include only "Demon's Souls", "Returnal", "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart" and "Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade".
