(ANSA) - ROME, 13 JAN - Thirty years after its birth, the Enea Climatic Observations station on the island of Lampedusa becomes the first 'sentinel' site in Europe for the integrated monitoring of the carbon cycle in the atmosphere and at sea, within of the European research network Icos in which hundreds of scientists and researchers participate, also operating 150 stations in 13 countries.
This was announced by the public research body in the online periodical Eneainform @ explaining that in the waters of the Sicilian island, new hi-tech instruments have been installed that collect information and strategic data on the concentration of Co2 and on the exchanges between the atmosphere and the ocean that are 200 scientific organizations.
The installation was carried out as part of the Pro-Icos-Med project, coordinated by the National Research Council (Cnr) in collaboration with Enea and Crea (Council for research in agriculture and the analysis of the agricultural economy) and financed with over 13 million euros from the Ministry of University and Research.
