Poison for savers, inflation is becoming a headache for insurers.
Despite their efforts in recent months to maintain attractive rates for their funds in euros, the preferred savings product of the French, the surge in prices (2.8% over one year in December, according to INSEE) is too strong.
Once inflation is taken into account, the average net return of funds guaranteed in euros will indeed be negative.

The association of savers Afer, one of the market benchmarks, announced Thursday a 2021 rate of 1.70%, unchanged from 2020. This stability is a good surprise, after years of uninterrupted decline.
"It was difficult to maintain this rate,"
says Gerard Beckerman, president of the association with 750,000 members.
And yet, the yield served could be lower than annual inflation (the precise figure will be known in the coming weeks).
These efforts will not have prevented the subscribers of these contracts from seeing the real value melt away...
