As Heil announced on Wednesday (January 12), he is planning a permanent
legal right to work from home
for employees - wherever possible.
A “new freedom” needs to be preserved, says the Federal Labor Minister, who wants to establish working from home permanently in Germany.
"I am in favor of the fact that we draw fundamental consequences for the world of work from the corona-related, unplanned large-scale attempt at home office," said Heil to the German Press Agency (dpa).
The traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP agreed on this: “A modern regulatory framework for mobile working is coming”, so on.

Rejection of the legal claim only for operational reasons
According to Heil's plans, employers must enable their employees to work from home in the future,
unless there are operational reasons against it
- "for example because you work at the blast furnace in the steelworks and of course you cannot work from home," said Heil.
If, on the other hand, the employer cannot give any operational reasons, the legal claim applies to employees.
Those who only wanted to work from home occasionally should be able
to take advantage of this
