(ANSA) - KOBLENZA, 13 JAN - Anwar Raslan, former colonel of Syrian intelligence services with a leading role in the repression of political dissent under Bashar al-Assad, accused of the death of many prisoners and thousands of torture cases, was sentenced to life imprisonment in Germany for crimes against humanity.
The Supreme Regional Court of Coblenzasi is expressed at the end of a trial which lasted almost two years, defined by many as "political" and which is based on the principle, applied by German justice, of universal jurisdiction.
Raslan, 58, was arrested in Berlin in 2019 and was a "political refugee".
