The Californian festival returns for two weekends, April 15-17 and April 22-24, after two years of absence due to Covid-19.

Two years, a pandemic and two cancellations later, the Coachella festival is set to return in April to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Southern California.

The festival revealed its full lineup for the 2022 edition yesterday. Headlining pop prodigy Billie Eilish, ex-One Direction Harry Styles and hip-hop legend Kanye West, credited on the poster with its new official name, Ye.

The Chicago rapper is the only one of the three to have performed as a headliner at Coachella in 2011. At just 20 years old, Billie Eilish becomes the youngest headliner in the history of the festival.

The impressive lineup is eclectic.

Rap takes center stage, with Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Doja Cat, Lil Baby, Vince Staples, Denzel Curry, Run The Jewels and Freddie Gibbs & Madlib among others.

Electro music is also very represented, with among others Jamie XX, Flume, Disclosure, Caribou, The Avalanches or DJ Koze.

Rock is particularly shy this year, with the only notable representatives being Phoebe Bridgers, Spiritualized, IDLES, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard or Japanese Breakfast.

Like every year, several French or French-speaking artists invite themselves to the party.

Stromae, L'impératrice, and DJs Madeon and Tchami will travel to California for the two weekends of the festival, from April 15 to 17, then from April 22 to 24.

Note that Aya Nakamura, announced for the 2020 edition, is no longer showing.

The Travis Scott soap opera

Rapper Travis Scott was originally scheduled to headline the final night, replacing Kanye West.

Last November, a crowd movement during his Astroworld festival concert left 10 people dead.

The lack of reaction from Travis Scott and the organization of the festival at the time seriously damaged his image.

A petition, asking for the removal of the rapper from the programming, had collected more than 60,000 signatures in a few days.

A situation that prompted the organizers of Coachella to deprogram the rapper from Houston, who is also regularly pinned for his dangerous concerts.

Created in 1999, Coachella has established itself as an event that goes far beyond the gates of the Empire Polo Club.

Its rain of stars and its highly Instagrammable decor have given the festival an international aura.

The concerts of Daft Punk in 2006 and Beyonce in 2018 also forged the legend of the festival.

The 2022 edition has been

for months.

For the 2023 edition, we already know that the discreet genius Frank Ocean will make his long-awaited return to the festival stage.
