Cem Bölükbaşı makes the leap from the virtual to the real formula racing car.
In the coming season, the e-sportsman will be a racing driver in Formula 2.
Although e-sports are becoming more and more popular, it is still a marginal phenomenon compared to traditional sports.
But an e-sportsman has built a bridge between the two disciplines: The Turkish e-sportsman Cem Bölükbaşı is switching from the Formula One eSports Series to Formula 2 and is thus fulfilling a big dream.
In the coming season, the 23-year-old will be in the cockpit for the Czech racing team Charouz Racing System.
Bölükbaşı makes history with it: He becomes the first e-sportsman to switch to Formula 2.
He will also be the series' first Turkish racing driver.

Formula 2 newcomer Cem Bölükbaşı already has experience on real circuits
Born in 1998, Bölükbaşı started his racing career at the age of five in motocross before switching to karting.
In 2006 he took part in the Turkish Karting Championship and competed in various European junior competitions.
He also tested various Formula 4 and Formula 3 cars
in the following years

Bölükbaşı then took an extended break from real racing and became
a big name in virtual racing

He clinched a string of victories in the official Formula 1 eSports Series for AlphaTauri.
If I had never been to F1 e-sports, I would never have had the chance to get into a real racing car.

Formula 2 debut in March 2022
In 2019 he returned to real circuits in European GT4. In 2020, Bölükbaşı finished second in the GT4 European Series. Last year he drove a Formula 2 car for the Dutch racing team Van Amersfoort Racing for the first time. The 23-year-old will make his debut in Formula 2
next season in Bahrain in mid-March
