Important changes to mini-jobs will come into effect as early as January 1, 2022.

This also applies to many employees.

An overview of the most important changes.

Anyone earning some extra money

with a

mini -job in

2022

must expect some changes at the beginning of the year.

Both 450-euro jobs and short-term employment of up to three months are affected.

This is how the wage or salary increases for many mini-jobbers.

But there are also some changes to health insurance or tax ID that employers in particular should not miss.

1. Statutory minimum wage is increased

The good news first: The statutory minimum wage will be increased on January 1, 2022.

It increases for all employees in Germany from 9.60 euros to

9.82 euros per hour

.

On July 1st there is another planned increase to 10.45 euros per hour.

Mini-jobbers may then have to adjust their number of hours in order not to exceed the earnings limit of 450 euros per month.

The minimum wage could soon rise even more significantly: the draft of the coalition agreement of the traffic light government provides for an increase to 12 euros per hour.

2. Health Insurance Information

From January 1, 2022, employers must state the

health insurance of short-term employees

when registering for social security.

"Evidence can be, for example, a certificate from the statutory health insurance company or the employee's private health insurance company, but also a copy of the insurance card," informs the Minijob-Zentrale in a blog post.

3. Feedback on short-term employment

From January 1, 2022, after registering a short-term mini-jobber, employers will receive feedback from the Mini-Job Center as to whether the employee has already taken up short-term employment in the same calendar year.

These

pre

-employment periods are important for employers, as short-term employment may last a maximum of 3 months or 70 working days per year.

"However, this notification only contains the information as to whether previous employment times exist, but not to what extent," says the mini-job center in its blog.

The latter must then be requested from the employees.

4. Reporting the tax ID of commercial mini-jobbers

Another important new feature for mini-jobs: from 2022, employers must also provide the

tax identification number in addition to the tax number

(also called tax ID or IdNr)

from commercial mini-jobbers

electronically to the mini-job center.

This 11-digit number is only assigned once in a lifetime and remains valid forever.

It can be found on the last tax assessment, among other things.

The

coalition agreement

of the new traffic light government also provides for an increase in the mini-job earnings limit.

However, the timing is still unclear.
