Udo Lindenberg is struggling with his absence from the stage due to the pandemic.

"In the many years that I've been making music, I've never felt so clearly how vital the audience is for me," the singer tells SPIEGEL.

It's the "hardest withdrawal."

At best, he had a similarly long forced break when he was drinking (

»When we had to cancel the tour in 2020, it was bad for us.

I knew what grief that triggers in many souls,” says Lindenberg.

Sometimes band members would have written to him: Today we would be in Berlin.

Or: we would soon be on stage in Leipzig.

Unlike many artists, Lindenberg did not perform during the Corona period.

Concerts in the drive-in cinema, like those given by Tim Bendzko or Nena, were out of the question for him.

»Small locations cause stress.

Thousands of people stood on the street hoping to somehow get in.

Black market prices would have exploded.

I don't want to do that to anyone."

Lindenberg doesn't get anything from streaming concerts either: "I don't have a direct energy connection with my panic family.

The spirit, the power between stage and audience.

The shining eyes, the theater of the crazy, the magic of the magical night.

Just cold cameras, that's not for me.«

Lindenberg's next tour is scheduled to begin at the end of May.

“It has to be, it will be.

If everything had to be canceled again, it would be too dark in the world.«
