Genoa has relieved coach Andryi Shevchenko from his post. "The club - reads a note - thanks the coach and his staff for the work done". The team was temporarily entrusted to the youth coach Abdoulay Konko, assisted by Roberto Murgita. The team's good performance against Milan in the Italian Cup was not enough to change the club's mind at the former Golden Ball. The club seems to have been negotiating for days the possibility of hiring the Italian German Bruno Labbadia, considered an expert in racing salvation, and is also targeting the former Roma coach, the Frenchman Rudy Garcia. The Ukrainian coach had taken over from Davide Ballardini: he remained on the rossoblù bench for nine days with a balance sheet of six defeats and three draws.Shevchenko managed to win only one match in the Italian Cup, 1-0 against Salernitana, a success that led the team to play against Milan: a match in which the team, despite losing 3-1 in extra time, played the best match management of Ukrainian. Genoa is penultimate in the standings with 12 points, five from the fourth to last position which guarantees the permanence in Serie A, now occupied by Venezia.

Sixth bench jumped in Serie A

- With the sacking of Andriy Shevchenko, the number of benches skipped in Serie A rises to six during the current season. Before the Ukrainian, it was Luca Gotti from Udinese. The first were, both after the 3rd matchday, Leonardo Semplici of Cagliari and Eusebio Di Francesco of Verona, replaced respectively by Walter Mazzarri and Igor Tudor. After matchday 8, and a balance of one victory, one draw, six defeats, Salernitana sacked Fabrizio Castori, in whose place Stefano Colantuono was called. Fourth, in order of time, was Davide Ballardini, who finished his fourth experience at Genoa after the 12th matchday. To replace him, the former Golden Ball was chosen, Andriy Shevchenko, fresh from the adventure of Euro 2020 at the helm of the Ukrainian national team. Finally, after 16 league rounds, it was Luca Gotti's turn, who left Udinese after 3 wins, 7 draws and 6 defeats. Gabriel Cioffi took his place. Today it was the turn of 'Sheva'
