(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JAN 15 - The moratorium on evictions in the state of New York, launched to alleviate the burden on the families struggling with Covid, comes to an end. As of today, more than half a million families are in danger of being removed from their homes. The protests to ask for an extension have been going on for days but so far without success.
For Governor Kathy Hochul, this is a considerable challenge: at the heart of his program is housing, for everyone and at affordable prices. And if an eviction crisis should break out, the political repercussions for the governor could be considerable.
The end of the moratorium is also a tile for the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, whose start of mandate has already been characterized by many difficulties. (HANDLE).
