(ANSA) - ATHENS, 16 JAN - An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 shook northern Greece, not far from Thessaloniki, and was also felt in Athens.
At the moment there are no reports of damages or injuries, according to reports from the Athens Observatory.
The quake was reported at sea at 13.48, orally, (12.48 in Italy) with the epicenter 10 km deep and 23 km south-west of Mount Athos which is home to many monasteries.
Greece is located on several seismic faults and is regularly affected by earthquakes.
In October 2020, a magnitude 7 quake struck the Aegean Sea, between the Greek island of Samos and the city of Izmir in western Turkey.
Most of the damage occurred in Turkey, where 114 people died and more than a thousand were injured while in Greciale there were only two victims.
