2022-01-16T21:05:53.316Z

In light of the damage to the economy and studies on the Omicron: Senior Ministry of Health discussed the possibility of relieving the infected • Peak rates lead to congestion in hospitals - and more departments have opened • Experts: "Beginning of decline - in about a week"

Hospitals across the country yesterday reported abnormal congestion in wards following a dramatic increase in the number of corona and flu patients, and due to the isolation blow affecting medical staff.

At the same time, senior officials from the Ministry of Health discussed the possibility of shortening the duration of isolation following infection with Omicron to 5 days, after only about a week and a half ago the duration of isolation was shortened to only one week.

Health Minister Horowitz supports the move, and a decision on the matter is expected soon.

At Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, another corona ward was opened in the underground parking lot, due to the increase in morbidity.

The director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, visited the Corona department in the underground car park yesterday.

Additional corona wards were also opened at Hadassah Ein Kerem and Shaare Zedek hospitals in Jerusalem, alongside a request from the Herzog Medical Center in the capital for assistance from the Home Front Command.

Prof. Dror Mevorach, director of the corona department at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, told Israel Today: "We are facing an increase in infection rates to an unprecedented peak rate in Israel over the coming week. We are constantly improving our situation in the face of the disease, and we hope that we will also pass the next period successfully. "

Prof. Ronit Calderon-Margalit of the Hebrew University estimates that the omicron wave will reach its peak in the range of another week to ten days.

"This range and its length depend, among other things, on the level of 'voluntary closure' that people are currently imposing on themselves. In principle, the assumption is that everyone will be infected once and not re-infected with the micron, so the point right now is when most of the public will be infected."

As of last night, there are 259,204 active patients in Israel.

1,278 people are hospitalized in the hospitals, 436 of them in critical condition, of whom 96 are respirators and 11 are connected to Acme.

As mentioned, the increase in the number of serious patients in Israel continues and stands at 436 active patients, with 57 new serious patients added yesterday.

The rate of infection decreases to 1.59.
