The tsunami threat linked to the eruption was lifted on Sunday.
The tsunami triggered by the powerful eruption caused significant damage but no casualties, according to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said at 4 a.m. Paris time that the threat of tidal waves has "generally passed" for countries bordering the ocean, even if slight variations in the sea level remain possible for a few hours.
