Ricky Gervais is one of the brilliant comedic creators of our generation, but that would not be the text that would explain to you why he is such a genius.

It seems that sometime along the way he came up with a built-in loophole in the human race, one through which compassion and sympathy can be drawn from people in any situation.
Gervais realized that he was actually capable of creating such a sociopathic, sarcastic, tactless main character who shied away from any social convention and squirted out all the traits that deter humans - and we would still love her.
