A common cause of heart muscle inflammation is a previous infection that has not fully recovered.

Cases were also reported after the corona vaccination.

Delayed infections are the most common cause of heart muscle inflammation (myocarditis). As the German Heart Foundation further informs, influenza, for example, can result in inflammation of the heart muscle. Gastrointestinal flu* can also take this dangerous course – unless you cure it well. Because if you return to hectic everyday life too early or resume your sports program quickly, you risk spreading the infection.

This promotes the development of myocarditis and can even lead to sudden cardiac death

, according to the German Heart Foundation. So take precautions and cure infections with the necessary patience, is the appeal of the foundation.

Even after corona vaccinations, there were cases of heart muscle inflammation.

The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI) as the German federal institute for vaccines and biomedical drugs records the reported complaints after corona immunizations in safety reports.

The current report also

lists the myocarditis cases.

Inflammation of the heart muscle after vaccination: Patients feel “quickly better” after treatment

"The well-known, very rare side effects of mRNA vaccines include myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardium), with young men and male children and adolescents being particularly affected after the second vaccination," the PEI informs in the current safety report . But what exactly does “very rare side effect” mean? With more than 92 million vaccine doses of Comirnaty (Biontech) and Spikevax (Moderna) that were vaccinated in Germany by September 30, 2021, a total of 1,243 suspected myocarditis/pericarditis reports were reported to the PEI. However, regardless of the causal connection with the respective vaccination.

The inflammation of the heart could therefore not be unequivocally attributed to the vaccination, but can also have other causes such as a delayed infection, the use of certain medications such as antidepressants or autoimmune diseases

.

In very few cases, however, the myocardium or pericarditis after mRNA vaccination is life-threatening.

"The published data show

that most patients with myo-/pericarditis after vaccination with mRNA vaccines respond well to treatment and rest and feel better quickly,

" according to the PEI safety report.

How many people died from heart muscle inflammation?

"Nine deaths temporally related to the Covid-19 vaccination and myocarditis/pericarditis were reported: six men and three women aged 35 to 84 years," informs the PEI safety report.

Five reports related to Comirnaty, in the other four reports further information is still missing, which is why a final assessment is not yet possible.

Important to know for the classification of the numbers: By December 15, 2021, 136.6 million vaccine doses were administered in Germany

, as the vaccination dashboard shows.
