Start the day healthy with muesli for breakfast?
Unfortunately, this does not apply to all products.
Öko-Test examined 50 mueslis and identified problems with mineral oil and pesticides.
Many consumers should already be aware that store-bought mueslis contain a lot of sugar and are not as healthy as they promise*.
However, the fact that some
fruit mueslis contain
pesticides, some of which are even banned in the EU, should spoil their appetite.
Several products failed the
Öko-Test
study .
In addition to the sprays, the mineral oil components and too much sugar are also criticized.
The good news: at least 21 fruit mueslis passed the test with top marks.
Muesli in the test: Öko-Test finds questionable pesticides in fruit muesli
The
50 mueslis examined
from different brands – including 29 products from the organic range – have varying fruit contents from seven to 55 percent. The laboratory commissioned by Öko-Test detected several
pesticides
in many muesli mixtures - in one case even 31 pesticides in just one bag. This is classified as problematic for possible health risks due to little researched interactions. Öko-Test also criticized the fact that spray poisons were found in some mueslis, which are no longer allowed to be used in the EU. In addition, traces of
glyphosate
were found in five fruit mueslis
discovered: an injectable drug suspected of causing cancer that is not yet banned, but highly controversial.
Öko-Test also sees a problem with mineral oil components: both contamination with saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH) and aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) have been detected.
