Silicone is often used to seal something.

But how can you remove silicone with home remedies?

Did something go wrong when

sealing

or would you like to replace

silicone

joints

and remove the

old silicone

?

Depending on whether the silicone is old or fresh, the removal is a little different.

Read here which

home remedies

are best suited to remove silicone.

How to remove fresh silicone

In general, the fresher the silicone, the easier it is to remove it again.

So if you notice a spot when

doing DIY

that has silicone that you didn't want there, you should remove it as soon as possible while it hasn't dried yet.

You can remove soft silicone with a spatula, although you should use cardboard or a kitchen towel for larger quantities.

This will remove the coarse silicone residues.

For fine residue, you should

allow undiluted washing-

up liquid to take effect and then

wipe over it with a

damp microfiber cloth .

Instead of washing-up liquid, you can also mix

vinegar

with water in a ratio of 1:2, leave it on for five to ten minutes and then go over it again with the microfiber cloth.

However, you must be careful not to damage the seals with the vinegar mixture.

How to remove old silicone?

Removing old silicone is more difficult. However, if you want to renew your silicone joints in the bathroom or kitchen, you cannot avoid removing the old silicone residues. Again, grab a

spatula

for the rough stuff

. Alternatively, you can also use an old

kitchen knife

, a

cutter knife

or a

razor blade

. It's best to use gloves and be careful and don't hurt yourself. You also have to be careful not to scratch the tiles during the cleaning action. If the hard silicone is difficult to remove, you can either

heat it up with a hair dryer or cool it down with ice cubes or an ice spray

.

These home remedies help remove silicone

  • Dishwashing liquid

: Leave pure washing-up liquid on the silicone for about a quarter of an hour and then remove the residue with a damp microfiber cloth.

This household remedy is particularly suitable for tiles.

  • Dirt eraser

: Silicone residue can be removed from smooth surfaces with a dirt eraser.

However, this can take a while and you must not press too hard, otherwise the dirt eraser will crumble.

  • Baby Oil

: Rub the edges of the silicone with baby oil until the silicone softens and it comes off with a spatula.

However, do not use it on wood or natural stone, otherwise stains will remain.

  • Nail polish remover

    with

    acetone

: This home remedy takes away the adhesiveness of the silicone.

Dampen a paper towel with some nail polish remover and rub it in.

sponge .

As an alternative to removing silicone with home remedies, you can also get rid of unwanted silicone with

professional

commercially available silicone removers.

This is available either in liquid form (promotional link) or as a spray (promotional link).

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.
