At least 82 people have died in South Africa after heavy rains.
This was announced by the responsible government authority on Tuesday.
Most of the victims were struck by lightning or drowned, the statement said.
Severe storms are currently raging in many parts of South Africa.
The town of Ladysmith was particularly badly affected – entire districts were flooded there on Tuesday.
In some places the water was several meters high.
Several floods also occurred in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, which is surrounded by South Africa.
The dams in the affected regions were filled to the brim, it said.
"Rain is most welcome to help solve water shortage challenges in some parts of our country - unfortunately, heavy rains have caused significant damage," said Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Heavy rainfall, like the one currently occurring in South Africa, often occurs in summer in southern countries.
As early as February 2000, there was talk of a »storm of the century«: at least 250 people lost their lives in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa as a result of flooding.
Well over a million people were left homeless and entire regions were flooded.
