The largest black diamond in the world will go to auction at Sotheby's in the coming weeks.
Known as the Enigma, the 555.55-carat jewel has never been shown by its owner so far and will be exhibited in Dubai before being sold.
Its origins are also enigmatic.
It is believed that it may have been created when a meteorite or asteroid hit Earth more than 2.6 billion years ago, according to Sophie Stevens, a jewelry specialist at Sotheby's auction house.
The diamond was transformed into a 55-sided jewel and its shape was inspired by the palm-shaped symbol of power and protection of the Middle East, the Hamsa, which is also associated with the number five.
The stone could reach five million dollars at auction.
Last year in Hong Kong, the Key 10138 diamond sold for $ 12.3 million.
The payment was made in cryptocurrency.
