Chances are you're in isolation right now - that's just the statistics.

If you are not in isolation, you will soon be notified to enter one.

We are at the height of a wave of morbidity in one of the most contagious variants we have known since the onset of the corona plague.

So isolation is an existential state and only a matter of time.

Or you are before him, or after him or during him.

Or all the answers are correct (especially if you have children).

Many of the infected claim that they have no idea how they were infected, they are careful about masks (of course) and try to avoid crowds.

On the other hand, after two years of epidemic we are all begging for some routine - that the children go to school and kindergarten, that the adults can come to the office from time to time and on weekends to meet with close family or friends.

Which of these actions are safe and which increase the risk of infection?

It is precisely this question that researchers have sought to answer, and somehow produce a sort of scale or table that will help people understand what risk lies in each activity so that they may be able to economize their steps better.

Are our masks enough for this wave of illness?

Probably not really

The main mode of transmission of the corona virus and the omicron variant is through viral fragments that are carried in the air and breathed into the body.

In a study conducted by researchers at Oxford University in the UK and Boulder Colorado University in the US, they tried to quantify the effect of a variety of factors on the risk of infection. The type of activity they engaged in) and the quality of the air (closed / outdoor space, large / small room, number of people in the space, quality of ventilation in the space).

The study analyzed empirical data collected from infection cases of super-distributors - who was infected and who was not, what were the conditions at the place of infection, the distance from the infection, the size of the space, the quality of ventilation and the like.

With their help, the researchers built a mathematical model, which estimates in percentages the chances of contracting various situations.

The safest way to get infected with corona is through a combination of the following factors, which the researchers define as "red":

"Red" (high-risk) infectious agents

  • Crowding of a large number of people in an enclosed space, without adequate ventilation.

    Examples: gym, club, classroom.

  • Perform strenuous or noisy actions.

Examples: exercise, singing, shouting or speaking loudly.

  • Removing masks.

Examples: stay without a mask at all, a mask on the chin, a mask only on the mouth and not on the nose.

  • Prolonged stay in the same place.

The more you combine these factors together, the chance of infection will climb and can even reach 99 percent (for example: strenuous exercise in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation and high occupancy of people, without wearing a mask and for a long time = almost certain infection).

However, adhering to the following conditions (defined as "green" or "yellow" in the study) will reduce your chances of getting infected:

"Green" infectious agents (low risk)

  • If you must meet other people, do so in an open space, or in a place with excellent ventilation

  • Meet with the necessary minimum of people.

Only those you really must meet.

  • Make it short - stay with other people just as much as you owe.

Do not linger longer than necessary.

  • Singing, shouting and physical activity are actions that are best done in units right now, not in society.

  • Wear quality masks, and make sure they fit and sit well on the face in a way that covers everything you need for the entire time you are in an enclosed space.

From the moment you enter until you leave the mask should stay on you.

For example, meeting people in the open air will not put you at significant risk of infection (less than one percent), even if some of you will be without masks and even if you do strenuous activities such as sports or singing loudly.
