Aldi is going vegan in January – but not every customer seems to like it.

When the discounter then posts a blue sandwich, does a lot of users lose their appetite?

Aldi Süd seems to have made some good resolutions for the new year.

The discounter is throwing out one renewal after the other, focusing primarily on the issues of environmental protection and animal welfare.

Among other things, the retail chain is eliminating the shredding of male chicks*.

Every year 45 million chicks (!) are brutally killed shortly after hatching.

But that's over now - at least at Aldi and some other supermarkets.

But that's not all: the discounter is also planning a radical step in dairy products*.

In addition, the "Veganuary" campaign has been launched since the beginning of the year.

As the name suggests, it is about the vegan way of life in "January" - i.e. January.

Aldi* posts vegan or vegetarian dishes and new products on Facebook and Instagram, among other things, in order to make the meatless diet tastier for its customers.

However: Some users don't seem to like a post at all!

HEIDELBERG24* reports on this.

Aldi presents a blue sandwich - and thus triggers disgust discussion

On January 10, Aldi will post a short video on vegan nutrition. The discounter writes: “A month vegan means a month variety! What new dishes have already landed on your plate in January?” In the video, the company lists several reasons why a meatless diet can be good. So it says: “Why vegan? Because your plate will be more colorful. Your plate will be crunchier. Your plate will be fresher. Your plate will be more creative.” The clip features a salad, a soup and a carrot. Even if the reasons sound very general and focus less on issues such as animal welfare or health, Aldi customers seem less bothered by this.

What is a thorn in the side of some users is a sandwich shown at the beginning of the video.

The sandwich is filled with tomatoes, peppers, onions and beetroot.

What is exceptional, however, is the bread - because it is blue!

Aldi shows video with blue sandwich – “looks toxic”

"Whoa, does the first part look toxic," writes an Aldi follower in the comments and is not alone with this opinion. "Wow! The pure chemistry from the student chemistry kit! Yummy! The healthiest thing is still the water!", "There you go, nobody wants to tell me that the burger looks appetizing. You'll lose your hunger just by looking at it" and "Great, eat from the chemical laboratory! Really, totally natural”, are other entries from Aldi customers. But is the blue sandwich really a new product that can be found on discounter shelves in the future? The answer to that is: No!

Aldi explains that this is a photomontage.

"Our food artist experimented a bit, but can't tell us exactly.

However, she said that some activated charcoal was added to the dough to get the color," explains Aldi when asked what kind of bun it is.

The fake bun definitely attracts attention – but there are a lot of negative comments.

Aldi customers annoyed by the vegan campaign – "I want my roast pork"

But it's not just the fake roll that's heavy on the stomach for some Aldi customers. In general, the topic of “vegan” has annoyed some users. "I want my roast pork. And otherwise you can me," moans a customer. Another user writes: "It's just good that you don't have to follow every trend. Man was, is and will always be an "everything eater". So cereals, fruit, vegetables as well as meat. The mixture makes it ..... The whole exchange Chemical mush can't be healthy at all. That will show in years." It also says: "I wonder why they want to make us vegetarians and vegans if the rich are constantly flying into space and thus damaging the environment to such an extent which is disproportionate.”

Aldi's social media team, which currently also has to deal with numerous mask complaints*, is trying to counteract the flood of negative comments.

Among other things, it writes: “No one wants to make you anything, Veronika.

Changing your diet, even if only temporarily, is your personal choice.

But there are far more reasons to choose a vegan lifestyle than the environment.”

Aldi presents new products – vegan tuna pizza is met with enthusiasm

But there are also positive comments under the vegan post.

Some Aldi customers praise the discounter for its meatless products.

Another post, in which the company presents a vegan tuna pizza for the first time, has nice posts.

“I am VERY excited and curious about the tuna alternative.

The TuNah style sandwich tasted great!

It's a pity that these items are not in the normal Aldi program, but only items on sale.

I'm looking forward to the pizza!”, for example.

Conclusion: Tastes are known to differ, but you should always be open and tolerant for alternatives and new things - because who knows what you might even miss in the end!
