Bono Vox
seems to be in the midst of an artistic crisis
, who has declared that he "shudders" at the embarrassment he feels with most of the songs made by his U2s and has revealed that he does not even like the name of the band.
The 61-year-old frontman's 'confession' was made at the
Chatter Awards podcast (by The Hollywood Reporter)
and picked up by the
BBC
.
Bono, apart from the song
'Vertigo'
from 2004, feels a certain difficulty in listening to the music recorded on records sold all over the world and sung for years in concerts in front of many fans.
The Irish singer, despite the global success and longevity of the group, said he heard one of his songs on the radio and blushed terribly in particular for his voice.
Not to mention the name, U2, inspired by the American spy plane:
"In our minds it remembered the spy plane, it was futuristic. Then it became a kind of implicit acceptance of what that plane meant. I don't like that name. ".
Listening to the band's early albums, including 'Boy', Bono said the sound is amazing but not his voice, which feels like 'strained' and not very 'macho'.
"I was in the car - he explained -
and they played one of our songs on the radio
. I became scarlet. I'm so embarrassed".
Bono also confessed that he has only recently become a singer, referring to his voice.
But the rocker isn't proud of the U2 name either.
David Howell Evans aka The Edge
(guitarist) thinks the same,
who doesn't appreciate the pun that comes out of it.
In the same way as the name 'Beatles' which in English makes an assonance with beetle, that is scarab.
