Coffee tastes best when its full aroma can be dispensed.

But correct storage is important.

Read here how to do it.

Is coffee also part of the start of the day for you in the morning?

This is the case for many people and yet by no means all of them pay attention to the

quality

of their coffee* or how they should store it.

For example, they keep their coffee in the fridge.

Now you can find out why you shouldn't do that and how to do it properly.

Because

the full

aromatic coffee taste

can only unfold if it is

stored correctly .

Store coffee correctly: dark, dry and cool

Coffee beans retain their aroma better, as it quickly dissipates in the powder.

Ground coffee is therefore much more susceptible to loss of

aroma

than whole beans.

In both cases, the rule of thumb is: coffee is a natural product that is sensitive to light and oxygen.

  • Roasted coffee beans

    give off gases after roasting.

Therefore, they must not be packed absolutely airtight.

It is best to keep them in a bag with a so-called one-way breathing valve.

This allows the carbon dioxide to escape while the beans are protected from air and water vapour.

  • Ground coffee

    in particular

    loves airtight, dry storage.

That's why it used to be stored in ceramic containers.

    Back to the roots!

Alternatively, you can store your ground coffee in porcelain or glass storage containers or in a special aroma jar.

These should be opaque and airtight and in a place where they are not directly exposed to heat and light.

But beware: Do not refill the coffee powder, but leave it in the original packaging and place it closed in the container.

Shopping tip for long-lasting aroma

Shop ahead, so don't store ten packets of coffee at a time.

If you only drink a cup of coffee every now and then, buy small amounts.

If the beans or the coffee powder can be used up in a timely manner, they lose the least of their aroma.

That's why you shouldn't store coffee in the fridge

There is a common myth that the

refrigerator

is a good place to store coffee.

We explained above that cool storage is good, but that doesn't mean the fridge!

It's usually too humid there.

The result can be moldy coffee.

Also, in the fridge, the powder is exposed to many other flavors that it takes on.

Coffee is a real

aroma magnet

Freezing coffee: how it works

If you ever have too much coffee in stock at home, you can help yourself by

freezing the coffee beans

.

Pack them airtight in a cool bag.

When defrosting, you should make sure that the beans do not come into contact with the defrost water.

So it is best to put a cloth under the bag that can absorb the water.
