Aldi always convinces with special offers.

But that's exactly why there's a lot of trouble on Facebook.

A father is still waiting for his son's Christmas present:

Bavaria – Aldi is one of the best-known discounters in Germany. 4,159 branches nationwide, which are visited by around 44.66 million customers according to Statista. Of course, things don't always go perfectly. Every now and then small problems crop up. There was a roll recently that probably had the longest sell-by date* of all time. In Mannheim, a pregnant customer was thrown out * because of the mask rule. And the charging stations for e-cars* in some Aldi parking lots are also regularly a source of excitement.

There is always something going on at the discount giant and problems are often reported via social media.

Especially on Facebook, customers always vent their frustration or share.

Aldi then generally reacts quickly and, if appropriate, with humor.

However, there are also problems that are heartbreaking, as in the case of a man from Bavaria who is still waiting for his son's Christmas present to this day.

How does Aldi Süd react to this?

HEIDELBERG24* reports.

Customer frustration at Aldi Süd: Father complains about delivery problems on Facebook

It's been a few weeks since Christmas, but people are still waiting for Christmas presents.

This is what happens to Thomas.

The Facebook user and Aldi customer has now turned to Aldi Süd via the social network - and is letting his disappointment run wild.

He first states that he is not a friend of public criticism.

It quickly becomes clear why he does it anyway.

It's about the computers that Aldi Süd offered in the online shop in November. Thomas: “I am aware that the delivery of some products is currently not easy. What I don't understand is why the customer doesn't get a status update and you have to follow up on the information.” He must have bought a PC that hasn't been delivered yet. He has since been told that the order will be shipped no later than January 14th. That's quite a long time for a product that was already on sale in November.

But it gets even worse!

The Facebook user writes to Aldi Süd on January 17th that the information was probably wrong - and further: "Today the employee on the service hotline couldn't tell me anything about the current status and the planned delivery." He was surprised that Aldi already has the next gaming PCs on offer.

Then it gets sad, because while Thomas hopes for other customers that Aldi now has reasonable delivery times, he continues: "For my son, I would like him to be informed whether his Christmas present will come in the next few days."

This is how Aldi Süd reacts to customer frustration – no solution in sight

The dad probably wanted to make his son very happy, but he has been waiting in vain for the gift that should have been under the Christmas tree for almost four weeks now.

Nevertheless, the message from the Aldi customer was written very factually, which often happens differently in such a case.

The otherwise humorous social media team keeps their answer short and sweet.

"I'm very sorry that there were such delays with your order from our online shop," writes Community Manager Irek.

He also explains that he can understand the frustration at the lack of status notification, but: "Unfortunately, I can't tell you more than customer service."

So the customer is still left in the rain and has still not received an answer to his question.

Aldi Süd continues to write that they are trying to plan campaigns in such a way that sufficient goods are in stock and rapid processing is possible.

In this case it probably didn't work, because the order seems to have been more than a month ago.

For dad Thomas, we can only hope that the postman will soon ring his doorbell so that his son can still get his Christmas present.

Aldi Süd: No happy ending – reaction to possible delivery bottlenecks

While in this case it is probably a Christmas present, Aldi itself has shown how valuable the celebration of love is for families. The Christmas commercial 2021, which was certainly one of the best in the past year*, was about a sad story in which a boy surprised his father who worked in shifts after the two had overcome a few hurdles. All the sadder that Thomas and his son's hurdle now seems to be Aldi Süd.

But: As Thomas himself wrote in his post, delivery bottlenecks are not uncommon at the moment.

Especially with non-food items, the Omicron variant of the corona virus can cause problems in supply chains, as HEIDELBERG24 already reported*.

When asked by Aldi Süd, the discounter giant replied, among other things: "We are in constant contact with our suppliers and logistics experts and strive to react as quickly as possible to short-term challenges in procurement along the entire supply chain." (tobi)
