Andre Leon Tally, the famous fashion journalist and former editor of Vogue magazine, has died at the age of 73. Tally's agent, David Vigilano, confirmed his death yesterday (Tuesday), but the cause of death is unknown at this time.

Tally, who rose to a height of 198 cm, is considered a colorful and colorful figure in his life and one of the most influential names in the fashion world. His career spanned six decades and he wrote for a variety of fashion and design newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times. He is Vogue, where he served as news editor, creative director and editor-in-chief who worked closely with the magazine's mythological editor, Anna Wintour.

Many see Tally as a pioneer by being an influential black figure in the fashion scene, and he has worked hard to promote cultural and ethnic diversity in the field - whether on the modeling runway or in his high and creative ranks.

Tally was born in 1948 in Washington, D.C., raised by his grandmother in North Carolina and began to take an interest in fashion at a young age.

In an interview with the Guardian from 2020, he said: "Every Sunday I would cross the railway tracks and buy copies of 'Vogue' and 'Herpes Bazaar' (the first fashion magazine in the USA), return to my grandmother's house and read them.

After studying French culture at university he obtained an internship alongside Diana Verland, the former legendary editor of Vogue, and served as her assistant.

In the documentary about him "The Gospel According to Andre" released in 2018, he spoke of Vereland and his grandmother as the two great influences on his life, and as characters who instilled in him similar values ​​even though they lived very different lives from each other.

His first significant job in the press came in 1975, when he joined artist Andy Warhol magazine. From there he wrote and edited for various magazines, until he became the editor of fashion news at Vogue in 1983. He joined the magazine the same year that Wintour joined and the two became close and together changed the face of the paper. In 1987, when Wintour became the paper's acting editor, she appointed him creative director - a high-ranking role in the industry, in which he pushed for the integration of black designers in the fashion industry and wrote about the need to integrate minorities in the field. He left Vogue in 1995, but returned to the magazine three years later.

In the second decade of the 2000s a new generation of fashion lovers got to know him, when he served as a judge on the reality show "The Next Top Model".

In addition he had guest roles in TV series like "Sex and the City".

In 2013, Tally left the magazine and had a media conflict with Wintour.

He devoted his last years to writing biographies, including a memoir he published about two years ago, in which he called Wintour "cruel" and "a man incapable of basic human kindness."
