Depending on the survey, the information about the average salary of Germans varies.

A new study now shows who belongs to the highest-income group.

Have you always wondered what income bracket you belong to in Germany? Rather to the wealthy or rather to the poorer part of the population? The fact that money and salary are not talked about in Germany makes the assessment more difficult. But there are various surveys that deal with the topic. For example, a recent study by researchers Judith Niehues and Maximilian Stockhausen from the German Economic Institute (IW).

The two scientists have analyzed which groups are among the richest in Germany

. For this they have taken the net income* of 35,000 Germans.

A somewhat surprising result first: Single people without children are among the top ten percent.

But from what income?

Thanks to the study, citizens now have the opportunity to compare their income.

Here's a comparison.

Anyone who earns around 4,000 euros a month belongs to the wealthy section of the population

Do you live with your partner in a household and have a joint net household income (income of the household members in total) of around 3,000 euros? With this amount you are in the middle: Compared to the total population, 50 percent of the people are richer and 50 percent are poorer.

If the net household income is twice as high, i.e. at 6,000 euros, only eight percent of Germans are richer.

Are you single and have a monthly income of around 3,000 euros? Only 18 percent of the total population is wealthier in this case.

Other interesting study results, which were published in the

Wirtschaftswoche (WiWo)

, among others: Couples without children are over-represented in the upper income bracket. 11.4 percent of the top ten percent, i.e. the highest-income Germans, are childless couples. Singles are also relatively often among the richest strata of the population.

Single people with a net income of 3,700 euros are already among the top ten percent.

With 4,560 euros they belong to the richest five percent.

In summary, according to the study,

the average net income per capita for the top ten percent is 4,070 euros per month.

The five percent with the highest income have 5,460 euros and the top percent have an average of 12,760 euros a month at their disposal.
