Tesla boss Elon Musk wants to visit the Gründheide factory in February.

However, there is bad news about the Germany test models manufactured there.

Munich - In mid-February, Tesla boss Elon Musk wants to travel to Berlin and visit the car manufacturer's gigafactory in Grünheide.

The first vehicles will soon roll off the production line there.

Although Tesla is still waiting for a final building permit, the first test models for Germany have already been produced.

Apparently, however, the quality at this point still leaves a lot to be desired.

The parts and bodies manufactured so far would be of “poor quality”, Tesla explained.

Tesla test models for Germany: Poor quality identified shortly before Musk's visit to Berlin

The Tesla factory in Grünheide, Brandenburg, was repeatedly plagued by postponements and delays.

Environmentalists lodged an objection and protested against the settlement of the automaker.

After long discussions, it seems that the time has now come.

The final building permit could soon be granted and Tesla's first electric cars could be produced.

CEO Elon Musk wants to be in Berlin in time for the final sprint and visit the factory.

The factory is not yet finished, but the first Tesla models for Germany have been produced. The car manufacturer has produced 250 copies in order to test the machines and systems. The results of these tests are probably not encouraging, as

Focus

reports. According to the manufacturer, the vehicles "have a significantly deviating quality from the system specifications".

Due to the situation, Tesla also announced new tests directly.

This is specifically justified by the fact that “the quality and production efficiencies necessary for the acceptance of the system and aggregates have not yet been achieved in relation to the operating units mentioned”.

Appropriately, Tesla has now received further advance permission from the Brandenburg State Environment Agency to produce 2,000 Model Y vehicles.

The October permit for system and machine tests was extended to 250 units and extended to March.

Tesla is allowed to do new tests, but with a condition - the authority sees no obstacle to factory approval

However, a larger number of test models also means more costs for Tesla, which cannot be recovered, because the State Environment Agency attached a central regulation to the approval. The manufacturer is allowed to process, paint and assemble 6,000 parts per week, but the end products may not be sold. "The parts and bodies produced during the system tests may not be used as goods for sale. The use of the parts and bodies produced during the system tests for the production of salable vehicles is not permitted," the authority said.

The car manufacturer even has to document the whereabouts of these parts in order to be able to prove that they were not sold.

After all, Tesla can also save a lot with these models.

The most expensive parts, such as the engine and, above all, the battery, are not included in the test vehicles.

The financial blow is therefore limited.

However, this bad quality news was also followed by a positive development for the automaker.

The State Environment Agency sees nothing standing in the way of factory approval.

"The second online consultation has now ended and the concerns expressed do not indicate that there are significant obstacles to approval of the project," the authority announced.
