2022-01-19T13:49:05.401Z

The French devote 50 minutes to it in addition to television time per day to play video games, watch series on Netflix or listen to music.

In 2021, viewers spent an average of 3h41 minutes daily watching TV programs, according to the latest report from Médiamétrie.

That is 1 minute more than in 2019. The French are not confined to watching TF1, M6, France 2, Canal+ or BFMTV.

When they turn on their television, it is also now to play video games, listen to music, watch the latest series from Netflix or Disney+.

So many activities that keep them glued to the small screen for 50 more minutes.

Results?

Our available brain time is more monopolized than before, since we stay 4h30 every day in front of the living room post.

This is nothing out of the ordinary.

Fifteen years ago, the French spent an hour less in front of their good old TV....

The television, a new all-purpose screen?

"

It has effectively become a crossroads of uses, a gateway to complementary activities

", observes Laurence Deléchapt, TV & Cross Media Director of Médiamétrie.

This development can be explained by the rise of new practices.

42% of French households subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, Disney+...

Today, 42% of French households now subscribe to a video on demand offer such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, AppleTV+... And 8.7 million French people watch a program every day on one or the other of these platforms, essentially (72%) from television.

Added to this are the 20.5% of households with a connected video game console.

The discipline has been boosted by the confinements of 2020 and it is attracting a

growing share of assiduous followers

, explains Laurence Deléchapt.

55% of equipped French people play every day or almost, even several times a day

”.

Largely, here again, from the television... But the latter, thanks to the rise of smart TVs, is now also used to listen to podcasts, connect to TikTok, Instagram or YouTube...

More than 33 million people now combine viewing of TV programs and additional uses.

Clearly, the followers of cathodic worship are becoming more and more ecumenical.
