Because he is said to have shot a man in Los Angeles in October 2018, a 25-year-old must answer before the Landshut district court.
The public prosecutor accuses the accused of murder.
At the beginning of the trial on Wednesday, the American-Iranian citizen admitted what had happened.
According to the indictment, the man shot his victim twice in the upper body and four times in the back.
He then got into his victim's car and deliberately ran over his body.
The suspect then fled in the victim's car.
The defendant told the court he knew the victim and spent time with the man.
But he had the impression that the acquaintance wanted to steal his cell phone and tablets - there was an argument and the situation escalated.
Arrested at Munich Airport
The suspect wanted by the US authorities was arrested at Munich Airport in 2020.
The airport is within the jurisdiction of the Landshut Regional Court, which is why the case is being heard there.
According to the information, a US extradition request was initially approved by the Munich Higher Regional Court (OLG), but was declared inadmissible following a complaint by the accused.
The reason: the authorities in California could not guarantee prison conditions that were comparable to German standards.
