In 2007, director Catherine Hardwicke questioned the potentially "illegal" nature of a kiss exchanged by the two actors during an audition, as she revealed on the podcast "The Big Hit Show", the Wednesday January 19.

In May 2009, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson won the "Best Kiss" trophy at the MTV Movie Awards. Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first chapter of

Twilight

, remembered the beginnings of such alchemy in the podcast “The Big Hit Show”, unveiled on Wednesday January 19. In 2007, the scenario writer made pass hearings in his house, in order to find the future interpreters of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.

She then receives a certain Kristen Stewart, aged 17 at the time, and a man named Robert Pattinson, 21 .

“Rob and Kristen auditioned right here on the bed,” she says during a tour of her home.

Before adding: “During the kissing scene, Rob was so into it that he fell out of bed.”

The sequence, filmed by Catherine Hardwicke using a small camera, is so intense that it arouses the concern of the filmmaker.

"You have to choose Rob"

She thus wonders about the potentially “illegal” nature of this torrid kiss, because Kristen Stewart is still a minor at the time. “I could see that there was a great chemistry between them, and I said to myself: “Oh my God”, remembered Catherine Hardwicke. I was thinking about Kristen's age, who was 17. I didn't want illegal things to happen."

So much so that the director would have warned Robert Pattinson: "I remember saying to Rob:" By the way, Kristen is 17 years old. In our country, it is illegal to have a sexual relationship (

Both will also live an off-screen romance, from 2009 to 2013.

The ousting of Henry Cavill

Robert Pattinson will also play Edward Cullen in the five chapters of the saga.

He was not, however, the first choice of Stephenie Meyer, the author of the books which inspired these feature films.

The latter wanted at the time to entrust the role to Henry Cavill (

Man of Steel

).

However, he was too old - he was 24 at the time - to play a 17-year-old high school student.

And this, to the great displeasure of the writer.
