Coverage of Netanyahu's plea deal: What about the balance? | Israel today

2022-01-20T07:31:43.652Z

Since Sharon Gal did not present his plan yesterday (Wednesday), we did not receive the required balance in covering the negotiations for a plea deal, and it seemed that most of the presenters and commentators had already decided the case of the former prime minister.

No less frustrating was my attempt to be updated on the state of the plea deal between Mandelblit and Netanyahu, in two five-evening editions on commercial channels 12 and 13.

The five-hour strip usually features two daily debate stages, thanks to two rating boxers who happen to present an opposing political position: In the right-hand corner, with the number 13, accept Sharon Gal.

And on the left, with opposing views accordingly and glasses exactly accordingly - Rafi Reshef.

It could have been balanced, only yesterday it hosted the program of the channel's military correspondent, Or Heller, which we'll get to later.

At Reshef, we received a non-standard update from Guy Peleg, who for years has not been able to hide his closeness to elements in the State Attorney's Office - yesterday he arrived with a burning insult to attack Mandelblit, who did not keep it a secret.

Even in his frozen tone the lyrics conveyed a sense of rage: "I think the Attorney General really ruined the business here.

For Peleg, objectivity was thrown into the trash about the same as the chances of being convicted of bribery at this stage, and the attorneys received from him the treatment reserved for the heroes: "He segregates those who fight in the trenches."

The fact that in the meantime the "bribe" case that may have led to the overthrow of a prime minister seems like a pouch - does not bother him, of course, because with Peleg, if there are trench fighters - then there is also an enemy that needs to be subdued.

As if to balance the side that Peleg is taking, instead of covering the event, regular guests at the table are Amit Segal and Yair Shreki.

Both are considered from the "right".

Segal politically analyzes the situation, but managed to thread the big story: "Anyone who says he is convinced that this trial will end in bribery - in my opinion does not undergo a polygraph."

The second "right-wing" commentator, Shrek, is not bothered by the fact that a right-wing prime minister has been accused of bribery here - if it is important to present Netanyahu as someone who is only trying to deceive and lead the deal in denial, if the current deal falls: In conclusion, children, Netanyahu in Rafi's case is one of three: an enemy, a crook or a pickpocket.

One jab at the edition of Or Heller, where the latter summoned a panel that is entirely unable to hide the position of support for the lawsuit, but at least we have heard a verdict: Supreme Court President Heller has already ruled: "Netanyahu is going to jail."

In a British understatement accompanied by smiles, Heller shouted and Baruch read that prison is the only ending they know of the story.

To their credit it should be said that they occasionally tried to diversify the wording of the legal forecast: "he will sit alone in prison," "in prison he will sit alone," and also "he will be in prison while his supporters are out," and so on.

Among Heller's cries for help, they also tried to have a discussion with Dr. Avishai Ben-Haim. The latter tried without any chance to take the discussion to his regular thesis around legal violence: " The right to determine. ”Even if I think this argument is not really the discussion itself, viewers had no chance of thinking about it in the ecstasy of Heller and Kara’s disorders, who had already informed the Doctor how the story would end.

Regular viewers of Sharon Gal's show got to see the settlement of accounts with what happened in that show the day before, where lawyer Zion Amir called on Netanyahu, in a surprising act, to go with the legal battle to the end.

Read updated that he is shocked that this is the lawyer's opinion, and further shocked that all of Netanyahu's family members are involved in the considerations for making the decision.

Overall - the afternoon is representative and balanced for all parties.
