(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 20 - "In February the commission will present the Chip Act to strengthen the production capacity of microchips and will include changes to the State aid rules to create factories for production in the EU".
This was stated by the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen speaking at the WEF in Davos.
"The demand for semiconductors around the world is exploding, microchips are everywhere nowadays, there is no digital economy without microchips and the EU needs will double in ten years," he added.
"This is why we have to raise the stakes when it comes to production, there is no time to waste; by 2030, 20% of global microchip production will have to take place within Europe".
