There is hardly a home in Israel that does not have a cookbook by Ruth Sirkis. In 1975, Sirkis published her first cookbook in Israel (after publishing two in the US, where she lived) - "From the Kitchen with Love". The book became the bible of cooking at a time when many women were making their first steps in the kitchen with its help. At that time cooking and food were perceived in Israel as a means of survival, and less an area of entertainment and enjoyment, and the book brought a new approach and did so while teaching the basics of cooking and baking alongside a purposeful display of cuisines from around the world. Sirkis later published a few more books that became icons, from the kitchen with pleasure, children cooking and more, but the first book was and remains a milestone in home cooking in Israel.

The thing is, even 47 years later at the age of 84 Sirkis did not rest, and is determined to continue to enrich our cookbook closet.

Every year we present our books at the Book Week booth in Rabin Square.

The audience stops next to us, recounting experiences about the books and recipes.

People love the book and recommend each other to buy it. "

So, we also asked her, if she feels that in the content-saturated world we live in today, there is more room for cookbooks, and her branded books, Sirkis confidently replied" in all the cultural developments taking place in the world - all A new content transfer phase did not hit the previous level.

Theater did not harm books, cinema did not harm theater, television did not harm cinema and so on.

This is the law, in my opinion, in the field of cookbooks.

There is a place, and a place of honor, for good cookbooks. "

slang

Aja is a type of vegetable and egg pancake.

Aja is most popular in Mediterranean cuisines and therefore has many versions.

The aja pancakes can be eaten for breakfast or brunch.

You can also put it between two slices of bread and make sandwiches from it.

You can eat it hot or cold, if you make sandwiches for later eating.

The aja can be prepared in two main ways: one is to fry a large aja in a pan, and after it is well fried on both sides cut it into triangles and serve as appetizers or entrees.

The second way is to make individual pancakes or patties that are served at a brunch in a large plate in the center of the table.

Pear and nut muffins

Muffins are small cakes baked in a baking tin.

They immigrated to Israel from the United States, where they are part of the national menu.

Eat them at breakfast, fresh from the oven.

They are not too rich or sweet, but juicy and delicious thanks to the pears and nuts.

This spicy drink is one of the most popular among the alcoholic brunch drinks.

To increase its spiciness, some people add a little Tabasco sauce to it.

And he has a non-alcoholic version called ... Virgin Mary.
