After more than four years, the Attorney General has ended investigations into two members of the right-wing extremist group "Nordkreuz" in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

A spokesman for the Federal Public Prosecutor said at the request of the dpa news agency that the proceedings on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that was dangerous to the state had been discontinued at the beginning of December due to a lack of sufficient suspicion.

The investigation against the two men became public after a raid in August 2017. The searches were intended to objectify the existing suspicions, it was said at the time.

There were no arrests as a result, but the process continued for years.

According to the information available at the time, the »preppers« should have stocked up on food and ammunition for their legally procured weapons in the event of a collapse in public order.

"Prepper" comes from the English word prepare.

In addition, the men are said to have seen the feared collapse as an opportunity to kill representatives of the left spectrum.

They would have created a list of names and other personal details.

This subsequently caused a stir in state politics, because politicians from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also stood by it.

Another member of "Nordkreuz" - a former top official of the SEK Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and in the proceedings as a witness - was given a suspended sentence in Schwerin at the end of 2019 because a machine gun and illegal ammunition were found on him during a search.

Content glorifying National Socialism was also exchanged in chats read out during the trial.

»Nordkreuz« is classified as a right-wing extremist group in the 2020 Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

Additional evaluations of the chats revealed the involvement of other police officers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Several were subsequently suspended from duty.
