(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 21 - We are now "almost 20 thousand hospitalized, 'with' or 'for' Covid-19, a number not far from the 25 thousand of the tsunami of the first wave in spring 2020", in the Medical Area. And although many hospitalizations are for other pathologies, this "does not ease the pressure on hospitals". This is the alarm of the Federation of hospital internists (Fadoi), which released a survey conducted at the beginning of the week in 14 regions.
"The impact of asymptomatic positives on the wards is however devastating", says the president of Fadoi, Dario Manfellotto. About 20% of the patients are hospitalized 'with' and not 'for' Covid, about 4,000 of the nearly 20,000 Covid hospitalized.
Not only that: those hospitalized 'for' Covid, in most of the structures (57%) "are not vaccinated in over 60% of cases, are aged between 41 and 60 in 43% of cases and between 61 and 80 in 36% of the wards, while the clinical picture is of medium severity in 79% of cases and 'severe' in 7% ".
"As a demonstration that - says the Federation - if the violence of Omicron is lower than the previous variants, its danger is in any case anything but negligible".
