The epidemic remains at a high level in France, while Omicron is now largely in the majority in Europe.

While we hoped for a respite, the epidemic continues to remain at a high level in France with a rapid spread of Omicron.

This variant of Covid-19 is now the majority in Europe, ahead of Delta, explained the European health agency.

France is still considering lifting restrictions in the coming weeks, while the epidemic figures, published this Saturday, show no improvement.

In the past 24 hours, reports Public Health France, 389,320 new contaminations have been recorded. Over the past seven days, on average, there have been more than 356,000 contaminations each day. As of Friday, authorities had reported 400,851 new cases in 24 hours. There were 324,580 over the same period last Saturday.

The very strong spread of Covid-19 obviously has an impact on the situation in the hospital.

28,515 people are currently hospitalized with Covid-19.

That's 58 more than Friday (28,457) and 3,971 more than last Saturday (24,544).

1,994 new admissions of patients positive for Covid-19 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, compared to 3,077 on Friday and 1,690 a week ago.

Note that these figures include patients positive for Covid-19, not only those hospitalized for Covid-19.

167 deaths in 24 hours

This pressure in the hospital is reflected in the critical care services (resuscitation, continuous monitoring and intensive care) to a lesser extent.

214 patients have been admitted there in the past 24 hours, compared to 329 on Friday and 218 last Saturday.

In all, 3,746 patients are currently in these services.

There were 3,792 on Friday and 3,852 seven days ago.

It is in this epidemic context that we deplore 167 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

Over the same period, Friday, we had deplored 235. 148 deaths had been recorded a week ago, also over 24 hours.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 53,802,773 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 79.8% of the total population) and 52,469,458 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 77.8% of the total population), reports this Saturday the General Directorate of Health.

Since the start of the booster campaign, 33,761,320 people have received a booster dose.
